Welcome to our online art gallery. Gallery 1: John Slemp, Photographer We are proud to feature a special photo essay by photographer and artist John Slemp in Volume 2. John and Nancy Suttles, Publisher and Creative Director, have been friends and collaborators for more than a decade. Limited edition prints are available of any of these images. Details below.
This assignment was straightforward: shoot patterns in nature. Here is what John captured. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's take a look at the first image in this gallery: sandstone. The: the name itself is a contradiction. Sand. Stone. The process of creating sandstone yields a surface that reflects the intense pressure it is formed under. The patterns created are simultaneously intriguing, unique, and mesmerizing if we will but observe.
John’s keen eye and use of light, shape, and composition are evident in the images he captures for a wide variety of editorial, corporate, and advertising clients worldwide. Born in Japan, John Slemp was a world traveler before he was a teen. After attending college on an academic scholarship, he served in the US Army stationed in Germany, and out of curiosity spent many hours visiting well-known museums throughout Europe. Little did he know that he was preparing for a life in commercial photography, and the world’s best art was a spellbinding tutor. He creates environmental still life, portraits, and lifestyle images, specializing in aviation. He will be working with us in the future to bring you many more exciting stories.
His work has won several industry awards, including winning two "Best of ASMP" competitions. He continues to exhibit hisfine art work, which hangs in a number of public and privatecollections.
He and his wife, Marietta, share a home in a suburb of Atlanta with Winston, a Great Pyrenees rescue, and Shadow, a sweet black kitty. John also enjoys fly fishing and a good cheeseburger. We hope you enjoy this unique view of "The Art in Nature”.
